As summer ramps up, Americans are planning to spend more time than ever in their outdoor spaces — but mosquitoes, ticks, and wasps are threatening to ruin their plans.
A new survey of 1,004 Americans from Modern Pest Services reveals 72% have backyard gatherings or barbecues on their summer calendar, and 61% plan to spend time gardening or doing yard work. Backyards and home outdoor spaces ranked as the #1 place Americans expect to spend time this summer — above parks, beaches, and hiking trails.
However, almost half of Americans with yards (47%) say mosquitoes prevent them from fully enjoying their outdoor area. Here’s how they are tackling pest problems around their homes:
- Over half (54%) use citronella candles, and 40% turn to natural oils
- 30% turn to professional mosquito treatments
- 22% turn to professional treatments for stinging insects (bees, wasps, and hornets)
